Vilagallo: Spanish style with a colourful twist
If your wardrobe could do with a little more colour, Vilagallo should probably be on your radar. This Spanish womenswear brand has been mixing bold prints, beautifully cut tailoring and a healthy dose of Mediterranean optimism since the late 1990s - and subtle certainly isn't the only option.
There’s plenty more to discover below, from the brand's origins, what it's known for and what makes it different. Already know what you’re looking for? Skip straight to the Vilagallo collection at Badger and get shopping.
Why we think you’ll like them
Vilagallo describes its style as “classic with a twist”, which sums things up rather nicely. The starting point might be a beautifully cut shirt, smart blazer or easy summer dress, but there’s nearly always something unexpected going on - a brilliant colour combination, intricate embroidery or a print that demands a second look.
The creative side of the business is split between Madrid and Piacenza in Italy, bringing together Mediterranean energy and Italian textile tradition. Vilagallo is particularly fond of vibrant colour, exclusive prints and premium fabrics, while its collections are produced as limited editions rather than in enormous quantities.
That makes it a very good brand for anyone who enjoys clothes with personality. You’ll find plenty of stripes and florals, but also tropical motifs, animals, illustrations and playful details that make a seemingly straightforward shirt considerably less... straightforward.
How long have they been around?
Vilagallo was founded in Madrid in 1997, giving the brand nearly three decades of history. What began as a Spanish womenswear business has since developed an international following - Vilagallo collections are now stocked in hundreds of boutiques around the world as well as its own Spanish stores.
The UK has played a part in that growth too. Vilagallo opened a flagship shop close to Oxford Street in London in 2015, while independent boutiques have helped introduce the label to British customers beyond the capital. Today, its wider business operates internationally through a substantial network of independent retailers (including yours truly).
Nearly 30 years is a pretty good innings for a fashion label, particularly one that has retained such a recognisable personality. Colour, print and a slightly mischievous approach to classic womenswear have been there from the beginning.
Who’s behind the brand?
Vilagallo was founded by Alberto Rodríguez, Inés Villalón and Beatriz Gallo in 1997. Villalón and Gallo provided the creative side of the original partnership, while Rodríguez was their business partner.
The founders developed a different take on the working wardrobe, combining feminine tailoring with colourful prints, unusual fabric combinations and influences gathered from around the world. The formula clearly found an audience, and Vilagallo gradually expanded from its Madrid beginnings into an international womenswear business.
There was a significant change in 2025, when the founders sold the business in a management buyout involving investment firm Alter Capital, footballer Marcos Alonso and Vilagallo executives Ana Ferrer and Mercedes Alonso. Ferrer and Alonso became co-CEOs, while Rodríguez left the company. Importantly for the continuity of the clothes themselves, Inés Villalón and Beatriz Gallo remained part of Vilagallo's creative team.

What are their ethical credentials?
100% of Vilagallo's production takes place in Europe, and the brand describes its manufacturing as "local, carefully controlled and focused on supporting the workshops it works with".
The company also says every garment undergoes individual quality control, with an emphasis on good finishes and durability. Its approach is centred on making clothes intended to stay in wardrobes for years, rather than designing purely around short-lived trends. There are stories of customers passing older Vilagallo clothes between generations as an example of the longevity it aims for.
Vilagallo has worked with limited editions since the beginning, rather than producing each design indefinitely or at unlimited scale. That doesn’t make clothing impact-free, of course, but it does fit with a slower approach to fashion based on distinctive designs, quality and longevity.
If you're trying to move away from disposable fashion without pretending that making new clothes has no environmental footprint, Vilagallo is one to add to your shortlist.
What Vilagallo is known for
You won't need to spend very long browsing Vilagallo before spotting the main attraction: print and colour. This is a brand that can turn a classic shirt into something involving palm trees, tropical illustrations, colourful stripes or a pattern you didn't realise your wardrobe needed until approximately 30 seconds ago.
Vilagallo shirts are particularly distinctive. The basic ingredients are familiar - collars, button fronts, neat cuffs and easy straight cuts - but the fabrics and patterns give them their personality. They’re also remarkably easy to wear considering how much is going on. A colourful Vilagallo shirt can do most of the work itself, so you can pair it with simple jeans or trousers and call the outfit finished.
Beyond shirts, dresses and tailoring are important parts of the Vilagallo look. Dresses give those exclusive prints a bigger canvas, while blazers and jackets show off the brand's more polished side.
Fabric plays its part too, with cotton, linen, silk and different woven textures appearing across collections. Add in embroidery, contrast trims and the occasional wonderfully unexpected motif and you've got the general idea: grown-up clothes that haven't forgotten how to have fun.
What’s the damage?
Vilagallo sits in the accessible premium end of womenswear, so it's an investment compared with fast fashion. The difference is in the limited production, European manufacturing, premium fabrics and detailed finishes, alongside designs intended to earn their place in your wardrobe for muchy longer than a season.
Vilagallo shirts generally come in at around the £120 mark, while dresses can sit around £185 depending on the style and fabric.

Similar brands to Vilagallo
Many Badger customers who like Vilagallo are also fans of Ilse Jacobsen. The Danish brand comes at womenswear from a different direction, but shares Vilagallo's love of distinctive design and clothes that combine practicality with personality.
Nümph is another good place to head next, particularly if colour and print are what brought you to Vilagallo in the first place. The Danish label has plenty of playful knits, patterned dresses and colourful separates, with that same useful ability to brighten up an otherwise straightforward wardrobe.
And then there’s Becksöndergaard, another Copenhagen favourite. It's particularly good for accessories, so if a full Vilagallo print is more pattern than you're in the mood for, a colourful Becksöndergaard bag or scarf is a very easy way to add some fun.
Between the three, there are plenty more colours, prints and interesting details to investigate. Beige wardrobes, consider yourselves warned.
