Pike Brothers 1937 Roamer Vest - Elephant Skin ( not real ) Asphalt Grey

The origins of our “Elephant Skin” fabric date back to the 19th century and the Industrial Revolution. New working methods and machines demanded everything from the workers, their work clothes, and the fabrics used to make them. Fabrics like our “Elephant Skin” were increasingly used, especially in heavy industry, because the material was extremely durable and could even withstand welding sparks.
The name says it all: a fabric that is just as hard-wearing and yet as supple as an elephant's hide!
The fabric gradually develops a leather-like quality, even though it is made of 100% cotton.
Our “Elephant Skin” is woven today, just as it was back then, by a German weaving mill according to time-honoured traditions and achieves a weight of 520 grams per square meter. The secret to the robustness of our “Elephant Skin” lies in the high weft density and the yarn used as the warp thread.
